BRIDGE WANTED

TAKAPUNA COUNCIL AFFAIRS The construction of a bridge over the tidal estuary at the end of Dominion Street on the proposed alternative main highway to Xorthcote was urged ut the Takapuna Borough Council meeting last evening by Mrs. A. Blomfleld. The council decided that while the proposal was still under consideration, it was of the opinion that the matter was not one for which a Government subsidy could be applied. Further application was made by Messrs. H. Bray and Company, Ltd., for a refund of £ 50, depost on a tender lodged in February last, and which had been declared forfeited by the council. The firm had submitted a tender for work, which, when tenders were considered, was the lowest and was accepted by the council. A week or two later the tender was withdrawn and an amended one substituted, the firm stating that a serious error had been made in computation. The amended tender was not then the lowest, and the council accepted another quotation, ordering that Bray and Company’s deposit be estreated.

The council resolved to adhere to its previous decision. High charges for permission to erect hoardings in the borough were protested against in two letters received. After discussion, in which it was suggested that hoardings should be prohibited, the council decided to adhere to the present charges.
