DONATIONS MOUNTING
SAVINGS BANK GIVES £SOO The Auckland Savings Bank has decided to contribute £SOO to the Mayor of Auckland's earthquake relief fund, subject to the consent of the Minister of Finance, which is expected in a few days. Birkenhead Borough Council’s fund stands at £ 36, and a further donation of £SO is expected. The council has authorised a performance in the Foresters’ Hall after church hours on Sunday, July 14. a silver coin collection is to be taken up in aid of the relief fund. A picttire entertainment in the Avondale Hall on Tuesday evening produced £SB 4s 9d for earthquake relief. Senior school pupils sold tickets for the performance. The Glen Eden Tennis Club’s dance on Monday evening returned £lO 2s toward the relief funds. A cheque for £5. forwarded by the New Zealand Universities’ Football i Club to Mr. T. TV. Maben, in recognition of his services in the two matches played in Auckland against the Aus-

On Saturday next the Rugby Union is having a “charge day” on the Domain, when Varsity meets the Shore. The proceeds will go to the relief funds. DAMAGE TO CHURCHES
LOSSES IN NELSON (From Our Oven Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. Reference to the vicarage at Murchison having been damaged by the earthquake to the extent of £IOO was made by Canon J. A. Kempthorne at the Waikato Dioceson Synod today. He added that the total damage to church property in the Nelson Diocese -was over £2,000. A resolution was passed expressing the sympathy of synod with the Bishop quake. Bishop Cherrington suggested that the collection at the thanksgiving service on Sunday should be devoted to the Bishop of Nelson's earthquake restoration fund.
