MUSEUM SPECIALIST

ON LOAN FROM SYDNEY ADVICE FOR AUCKLAND To advise in connection with the transfer and display of specimens for the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Mr. W. W. Thorpe arrived by the Maheno from Sydney yesterday. Mr. Thorpe, who is chief scientific officer at the Australian Museum, Sydney, is on loan to Auckland for a few months. He has had 30 years’ experience in museum work, starting •as a boy and receiving special training in palaeontology, ethnology and museum management. His special line is the handiwork of South Sea natives, more particularly of Melanesia, Micronesia and Papua. When on a brief trip to New Zealand some five years ago Mr. Thorpe visited the Dominion’s principal museums, travelling as far south as Dunedin. He will commence work Y the Auckland Museum at once.
