PAEROA NOTES
A concert in Paeroa given on Friday by tbe Auckland commercial travellers in aid of the Paeroa Hospital which has just been erected was a great success. The sum of £97 was realised During the interval the Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, introduced Mr. Gordon McMillan and Mr. E. Page, who jointly auctioned pigs, turkeys, geese and fowls for the benefit of the fund. The Mayor thanked the commercial travellers for their help. On the occasion of the recent visit of the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, the member for Thames. Mr. A. Samuel, introduced a deputation asking for a Government subsidy for metalling four miles of the WaihiWhangamata Road. Inquiries have been made, and it is estimated that the cost will be £2,600 In view of the fact that the Government has provided the whole of the money for formation work—£ IS.OO0 — and has undertaken to maintain the road for three years, the Minister thinks the County Council should contribute £ for £. in which case he is prepared to consider a grant for the work.
