REQUEST TURNED DOWN
WATER SUPPLY CONFERENCE ONEHUNGA COUNCIL A NOTIFICATION from the Mount Eden Borough Council, read at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening, on the question of a proposed water board caused a general stir of interest. As a result of the last Water Board Commission, Onehunga, although opposed to its formation and refraining from taking any part in the agitation leading up to the formation of the commission was nevertheless charged £9l as its share of the cost. When, therefore, an invitation was read asking the council to attend a conference of local bodies tonight at the Mount Eden Council Chamber to consider the question of presenting a Bill to Parliament for the formation of a water board, a distinct murmur of disapproval went round the table. Such remarks as “Not on your life” and “we might be landed for more costs,” were heard above the general hum of dissent.
On the motion of the Mayor, who said that Onehunga was perfectly satisfied with its own water-supply, it was agreed to take no action.
