MINISTER RESIGNS
DEPARTURE REGRETTED BY PRESBYTERY RETURNING TO U.S.A. After five years in charge of the Presbyterian Church at Papakura, the Rev. R. R. Greenwood, under medical advice, has sent his resignation to the Auckland Presbytery. This morning, Mr. Greenwood’s resignation was received with regret by the Presbytery, several speakers praising, on behalf of the parish, Mr. Greenwood’s service. For the Papakura parish members, a resolution made at session and congregation was read to Presbytery. It said that Mr. Greenwood’s resignation was regretted and the hope was given that the resigning minister should have a return to health. Mr. Greenwood came to Papakura from a church in New York and started in the parish as a home missioner. His work had built up the parish extensively. Mr. Greenwood replying, mentioned that it was his intention to take up his residence in Maryville, California, and he hoped to be able to resume preaching. Presbytery accepted Mr. Greenwood’s resignation with regret. Mr. Greenwood’s term of office will end on August 31. The Rev. T. Roseveare was appointed moderatoi of the charge. Reports on visitations to the charges of Mount Eden and St. Heliers-Kohimarama were adopted. Arrangements were made for the ordination of Mis Reid, of St. Peter’s, Auckland, who is to leave on September 13 for missionary work in Canton. Outgoing missionaries are to receive a farewell on August 13.
