COAL SHORTAGE
CLOSE WATCH BEING KEPT MINISTERS IN CONFERENCE (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Monday, During the coal shortage there h-ave been several conferences between the Minister of Railways, the Hon. \V. B. Taverner, and the Minister of Mines, the Hon. YV. A. Veitch, Minister of Labour. The position is getting serious, it is understood, as far as the railways are concerned. Asked for a statement on the question this morning Mr. Taverner said that a close watch was being kept, and that shortly a statement would be made by him on the railway aspect and by Mr. Veitch on the aspect in New Zealand generally. In the meantime a cablegram is going to Australia, where Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, is at present.
