TELEGRAPH LINE DOWN
LENGTHY INTERRUPTIONS SOME TRAFFIC DIVERTED Press Association INVERCARGILL, Sunday. j Stormy weather during the latter i part of the week resulted in com- | munication between Invercargill and j Dunedin being severed in the early ! hours of Friday morning. It was ! not completely restored until late this afternoon. The line was broken in three places : in the Southland section alone. It was possible to communicate with Waipahi, but from that point northward to Clinton things -were in a fairly serious state. Two miles uorth of Balclutha there was a bad break extending for one mile, and further breaks had been reported. All the available gangs worked at top speed to restore communication, but the break north of Balclutha could not be repaired hurriedly. It was possible to get in touch with Dunedin via Queenstown, but that circuit was of very little use and would not carry the very heavy load. In the meantime most of the traffic was held up pending restoration of the main line I of communication. Great difficulty was experienced between Dunedin and Clinton. Excellent work on the part of the gangs i who effected temporary repairs under trving conditipns resulted in com- j munications again being restored. J
