KING’S THANKSGIVING. The Westminster Abbey thanksgiving service on July 7 for the recovery of the King will be broadcast by all stations of the British Broadcasting Corporation. and also by the Chelmsford shortwave station. —A. and N.Z.-P.A. BRITAIN AND RUSSIA.—The Prime Minister oF Australia, Mr. Stanley Bruce, has forwarded to the Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. MacDonald, his reply to an inquiry on the question of resuming relations with Russia. He refuses to disclose the nature of the reply. BALDWIN’S REWARD. —The “Daily Telegraph” hints that the King. will presently find means of recognising the services to the State of the exPrime Minister, Mr. Baldwin. Obv*ously no distinction for him could be included in the list published yesterday, which was prepared by Mr. Baldwin and submitted to His Majesty by Mr. MacDonald. —A. and N.Z.-P.A. A LABOUR SAVING.— According to political correspondents, the British Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, does not intend to appoint a successor to Captain D. Hacking, who was Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade which has been absorbed by the Board of Trade This will save the Ministerial salary and the expenses of a secretary.—A. and N.Z.-P.A.
CRISIS IN JAPAN. —The Prime Minister - of Japan, Baron Giichi Tanaka. who has been at work, confident of success, on the recoP * tructl< ”L,„ his Cabinet, has met with a sudden and unexpected hitch. This, with an unfortunate collision with the military clique, has precipitated a crisis which threatens the necessity for the resignation of the entire Mmistry*—A. N.Z.-P.A.
SHIP SHORT OF FUEL. —The Island steameU Makambo arrived at Sydney on Saturday m completion of a round trip to the New Hebrides. During the voyage cyclonic weather caused the bunkers to run low and horse-boxes and other fittings were broken upi the wood being fed to the fi res Timber was also taken fiorn the decks. The passengers became excited, but the officers reassured them.
