CANTERBURY’S WIN
N.Z. CHALLENGE SHIELD SURPRISE WELLINGTON COLLAPSES Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Playing for the New Zealand Hockey Challenge Shield at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday. Canterbury, the challengers, easily defeated Wellington by four goals to one. (The result of the championship match was * entirely unexpected in Auckland. On paper Wellington had a very strong team, while almost all tho Canterbury men were new and unknown, and in Auckland it was the general opinion that Wellington would win by about the same margin as that by which is was actually defeated. Although no description of the play has been received it seems likely that Canterbury must have won. Thanks to a very dashing attack, as Wellington was known to be particularly strong in the half and back line.)
