Four Points Ahead
DEVONPORT LEAGUERS’ LEAD
City Coming Up Again
AS a result of Ponsonby dropping a point against Marist on Saturday, Devonport has now opened up a gap of four points in the lead in the senior League competition. Features of Saturday’s games were Marist’s draw with Ponsonby, and City’s overwhelming victory over Richmond.
City’s remarkable come-back was tbe talk of the town in League circles at the week-end, and its prospects of taking Devonport down a peg or two are being keenly discussed. The team showed a tremendous improvement in the backs, and if it maintains its present form it will take a power of beating, especially on a heavy ground. The Marist-Ponsonby match was a great game to watch from start to finish. Riley pulled the game out of the fire with a brilliant try just before the hell -rang. Devonport had an easy win over Ellerslie at the Shore, and Kingsland showed a gratifying improvement to beat Newton in a close game at the
Domain. POSITION OF TEAMS Following- are the positions of the teams in the senior grade competition: Devonport P. w. L.
