HELPING AUXILIARY
BRIDGE PARTIES HELD Bridge parties for the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary were given on Thursday afternoon and evening by Dr. Margaret Knight and Mrs. Bruce Mackenzie. In the afternoon Dr. Buckley Turkington, tho secretary, gave an address, and Mrs. Kidd, the president, spoke in the evening. Distribution of the funds was explained, and the work of the sub-committees of the auxiliary was praised. Those who assisted at the parties included Lady Carrick Robertson, Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. A. W. FAREWELL PARTY Members of the Carlton Tennis Club and friends were present at a farewell party on Saturday evening at which Mrs. T. F. Jeffries, of Ara tonga Avenue, Remuera, who is shortly leaving for Sydney, was the hostess. Chinese lanterns, balloons and purple and gold streamers were used to decorate the rooms, and billiards, bridge, dancing and games entertained those present. Miss M. Thomson gave a monologue. Miss Gower, Messrs. A. Jeffries and S. Osborne sang, and Master J. Pollard gave a. recitation. A of ring velvet was worn by Mrs. Jeffries. The guests included Mrs. R. A. PENWOMEN’S WORK Advances in the activities of the Auckland branch of the League of New Zealand Penwomen were shown in the reports at the annual meeting of the league on Friday. Officers elected were.—President, Mrs. Mary Stuart Boyd; vice-presidents, Mrs. Macky, Mrs. Carr Rollett, Mrs. Cluett, Mrs. Fletcher, Mrs. Dunningham and Miss E. K. Morton; honorary secretary. Mrs. Jean Boswell; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Amy Hutchinson; honorary librarian. Miss Jessie Edmlston: honorary solicitor, Mr. B. Dunningham: honorary auditor, Mr. X. Porter. Committee members were elected a* follows:—Mrs. Brownlee, Mrs. Richmond, Mrs. Fletcher and Miss Burton.
