PAKURANGA HUNT

MEET AT HOMAI COLD SHOWERS PREVAIL ' Bitterly cold south-westerly show- | ers curtailed the meet of the Paku--1 ranga Hunt, at the residence of Mr. ! and Mrs. Clutha MacKenzie, at Ho* 1 mai, on Saturday. Despite the unfavI ourable weather conditions there was j a good field and a couple of enjoyable ! runs took place before the rain interj vened. Contrary to expectations, the j going was good and the scent held well The pack was thrown oft on Mr. MacKenzie’s farm, and worked through Mrs. Palmer’s, on to Mr. McAnaly's, where a hare was put up. which took the field for a good spin across the farms of Messrs. Rogers, Masters and Dreardon. The quarry then turned, and took the followers back over practically the same course and was eventually lost in a clump of gorse. A move was then made on to the property of Mr. Masters, and after ■working through to Mr. Rogers's farm, a quarry was located in a field of turnips. Running on to Mr. Masters’s, it turned and led the field through Messrs. Kingsford’s and Giles’s, back on to the farm of Mr. Rogers, where it found shelter for some time in a belt of tea-tree. The hounds soon had it on the run again, and the Weymouth Road was crossed into Mr. Finlayson’s. Here the huntsmen had to dismount on account of the inaccessible nature of the country. and follow the pack on foot, and some time was lost in getting the horses up to the spot where the quarry took to the road. In full erv once again, the quarry was followed to the back of the Manurewa township, where a kill was registered on a small holding. On account of several cold showers, it was decided to adjourn to the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. Clutha. MacKenzie, where a sumptuous afternoon tea was served. During the absence of Mr. and Miss C. MacKenzie, Mrs. Bruce MacKenzie acted as hostess, and was assisted by Miss W. B. Lloyd. Mr. H. Bullock Webster, master of tho hunt, expressed the thanks of the large number of followers to their host and hostess, and also to the farmers who had given permission for the hunt to be hold on them properties.
