BOXING IN AUCKLAND
AUSTRALIAN WELTER-WEIGHT TO COME BOUT ON AUGUST 12 The Northern Boxing- Association is making endeavour to secure good boxers for the forthcoming Contests and has secured Billy Richards, the Australian welter-weight, who has signified his willingness to come to New Zealand under contract to the local authority. will take part in a bout on August 12, and although no opponent has been definitely named, in all probabality Artie Hay, the New Zealand champion, will be the Australian’s opponent. The association is also in communication with other Australian boxers, and is also awaiting the result of the bout between Bert Brown and Bob Delaney at Palmerston North on July 18. Definite arrangements for bouts following Richards’s initial efforts arc being left in abeyance in the meantime, as the association is concentrating on the Auckland provincial amateur championships, which will be staged at the Town Hall on July 29 and 30.
At Wellington this evening .Tim Broadfoot fights Eddie Parker, lightheavyweight, and heavyweight champion of New Zealand, for the former title. Broadfoot has beaten the champion on two occasions, and, although he has been suffering from a cold, he should bring the light-heavy title back to Auckland.
