POWER CAMPAIGN
DISPLAY AT TOWN HALL URGED ADVERTISING ELECTRICITY "It is about time this board approached the Auckland ElectricPower Board with a view to holding an electrical display in the Town Hall. It would help considerably in educating people up to the various uses of electricity.” CO said Mr. J. W. Hayden at this morning’s meeting of the Waitemata Electric-Power Board. Mr. W. Trevithick said it would be a good idea if the firms would cooperate in making the display a good one. It would be difficult to get the public to attend a lecture only. Mr. S. E. Kennings: I am somewhat diffident about urging an exhibition in the Town Hall. This board’s area is well catered for in the country, where there is no competition, but in the suburbs of Auckland competition is strong. We might do good for ourselves in the suburbs. It would not be advisable to hold an exhition till both power boards and the electrical linns combine, and we get assistance from all other centres. We must have a country-wide campaign to obtain a day load for cooking and general purposes. Consideration of the spheme was deferred in the meantime.
Later in the meeting, Mr. Trevithick asked that the board should request the Government to supply information as to the cause of the recent failures of power supply, and urge upon it the necessity of continuity of power. A great deal of trouble had been experienced on the Shore. It was decided that a protest, and request for information as to the cause, be forwarded to the Public Works Department.
