TALKIE SUPPLIES
ATTITUDE TOWARDS LOCAL APPARATUS
“The success and further de~ velopment of talking pictures rests solely upon the general quality cf voice and sound reproduction in the theatres, based of course upon expert recording in the studios,” says Mr. J. W. Hicks, managing director of Paramount pictures in Australia and New Zealand. In a statement issued by Mr. W. E. Kirby, Auckland manager, Mr. Hicks refers to announcements that distributors in Australia and New Zealand will not “service locally - made talkie equipment. “A cheap and u n s atisfactory equipment in a theatre can
easily spoil the best recorded talking picture, and in our judgment the Western Electric Company has already established a high accepted standard of dialogue and sound reproduction,’' says Mr. H icks. “Paramount is ready to serve any equipment if, in our judgment, it is up to the present established high standard of quality.”
