DELAY IN PUBLICATION INCONVENIENCE RESULTS | The 1929 Local Authorities Hand- | book has not yet come to hand from the j Government Printer, and local bodies j are being inconvenienced. As it is, tlie financial statistics contained in the book are always a year old and more by the time the handbook is published. Thus, the 1929 edition will contain records up to March 31, 1928. and it is felt that publication ought, if possible, to be more expeditious. Until the handbook makes its appearance local bodies are unable to view the effect of one another’s activities, and several complaints have been voiced about a delay which is considered unnecessary. The printers are not entirely to blame, however. In some cases towns
are tardy in forwarding returns, and it has been suggested that the penalties provided by statute for unpunctuality on the part of municipal officers should be made more use of.
