TRAPPED IN A MINE
TWELVE RELEASED BY , DESPERATE WORK SAVED BY PUMPED AIR Reed. 9 a.m. MELBOURNE, Today, j Twelve men who were entombed in the Jumbunna mine in Gippsland as j the result of a fall of earth yesterday j afternoon were released at midnight after desperate work by rescue parties. Air was pumped into the mine, and the men stated that had it not been for this they would have been suffocated. The imprisoned men were heard trying to dig their way to safety with picks and shovels. When they were liberated, some were In an extremely weak condition. On June 3, three Italians who were overcome by foul gas in this mine died.
