PENWOMEN’S LEAGUE

MUSIC SECTION MEETS Despite the inclement weather, about 20 members attended the gathering of the Musical Circle of the League of New Zealand Penwomen, held on Tuesday evening. The convenor, Miss Gertrude Bertram, presided, and a most attractive programme was given by various members of the section. Miss Edna Craig read a comprehensive lecture on the life and works of the French composer, Jules Massenet, and sang two of his songs. The Penwomen’s Trio, Mrs. Bloy, Mrs. IT. R. Hesketh and Miss Tiarks, gave a spirited rendering of Hunter’s trio, “Terzetto.” Miss Theo Halpin’s performance of Chopin’s Polonaise in B and tho accompanying encore was greatly appreciated by the audience. Miss Oona Burton’s recitations were much enjoyed, and Miss Amy Stevenson’s viola solo gained a well-merited encore. I Supper was served at the conclusion of an enjoyable programme.
