DRAINAGE AT PIAKO

AMALGAMATION OPPOSED A meeting of the Tahuna, Liston, Waitoa and Hunga Hunga Drainage Boards, with a view to amalgamation as previously suggested, took place in Te Aroha yesterday. Mr. T. Hughes presided. After a protracted discussion it was decided not to amalgamate on the grounds that it was impossible for one body to cope with individual districts with satisfactory results. A resolution was passed, however, that a controlling body be instituted to watch the interests of the Piako and to keep proper control on the amount of drainage flowing into it. This body also to have the power to levy a certain amount on each hoard to defrav supervision costs.
