FUNERAL OF JOCKEY

CLAIM FOR EXPENSES A claim for the funeral expenses of a jockey who died In July, 1927 was heard before Mr. Wyvern Wilson S.M., yesterday morning, when C - Little and Sons, Ltd., of Auckland funeral directors (Mr. McLiver)’ claimed from E. P. Ooldsbro’, of Auckland, accountant (Mr. Praer) the sum of £2O 7s, the expenses incurred. Witnesses were called by the plaintiff to show that the defendant ordered the funeral and undertook to pay the expenses of same. The defence was a general denial that the defendant gave the instructions or authorised the funeral, but he admitted that he had informed the relations of the deceased that he would endeavour to collect what lie could toward these expenses from the friends of the deceased and from the members of the racing fraternity. The magistrate gave judgment for the defendant with costs and witnesses’ expenses.
