PEEPS AT “PEKA”

BRIGHT COLLEGE MAGAZINE HUMOUR AND BURLESQUE A young, cheerful and entirely likeable off-spring of the Epsom Training College magazine “Manuka” is “Peka,” the christening number of which has .now been published. Packed from cover to cover with student humour and burlesque, it is among the brightest productions of its kind yet issued. “Peka,” meaning an off-shcot, branch or young sapling, and, therefore, aptly named, is the unofficial supplement to “Manuka.” It is No. 1 of Volume 20, previous publications having been under another title. This is explained in a breezy foreword, the which is maintained to the final paragraph. “Peka” appears to be the natural outcome of a desire on the part of the students for a more sprightly medium of literary expression than that provided by the parent publication. The spirit of student gaiety is allowed to trip unrestrained through its well-printed pages, even touching the advertisements, which are delightfully worded and arranged. For the greater part the burlesque is domestic, but the humour in both articles and advertisements is fresh, topical and original. Features such as The College Directory.” “Uncensored Celebrities,” “The Kids’ Page” and “Literary Review,” are excellent. Congratulations have been earned by the editor, Mr. H. J. Addis, the manager, Mr. E. TI. Blow, and the committee, Misses D. C. Fotheringham, R. K. Walker and F. E. Kitchener, and Mr. K. W. Rae.
