GRANT FOR COLLEGE
EXPANSION AT NELSON SEVEN ACRES TO BE BOUGHT Press Association NELSON, Wednesday. The Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, telegraphed to Mr. Frank Hamilton, chairman of the Nelson College Board of Governors, today, intimating that Cabinet had agreed to his recommendation for a grant for the acquisition of seven acres of land near the college. One of the first acts of the new Minister was to obtain a grant for the purpose of erecting two hostels to meet the overcrowding of the boarding accommodation. With that grant it is proposed to erect two hostels on the terraces. They will give a very pleasing non-continuous line of buildings running from the present main structure, by Waimea Road, right through to the hillside. The Minister’s further plan is to acquire seven acres on the western slope of Grampian Hills, on the southeastern side of the city. This is to be planted with trees so as to make a proper setting for the new buildings. The scheme is a distinct forward step in the progress of this educational institution.
