SECOND ROUND RUGBY

POLLARD CUP COMPETITION ABANDONED UNION’S WEEKLY MEETING That there should be no Pollard Cup competition this season was unanimously decided at a meeting of the Rugby Union Management Committee presided over by Mr. H. Frost last evening. This suggestion was incorporated in a motion proposed by Mr. A. St. C. Beldher. It was also decided that a ! full Second round of the senior competition be played unless, later in the season, it became necessary to curtail a number of games. The second round will be played as drawn in the first round.

Mr. H. Frost was appointed Auckland’s delegate to the Canterbury Rugby Union jubilee celebration to be held at Christchurch on July 26. It was stated that the celebrations would include a dinner and the official opening of a new suburban ground at St. Albans. The committee decided to donate 25 guineas to the Mayor’s fund for the alleviation of distress caused by the earthquake. Kingsland Club was granted permission to send a team to Coromandel next Saturday. A letter from a vice-president of the Papatoetoe Club suggested that an occasional senior match be played on his club’s grounds. The question was-re-ferred to the Match Committe, a member of which mentioned that one fixture had already been arranged.. A letter was received from the Auckland Football Association fixing the time of the deputation to wait upon the Parks Committee of the City Council from the kindred sports bodies as 3.30 on July 2. The purpose of the deputation is to ask that improved facilities be arranged for players using grounds under the council’s control and that some action be taken to prevent the operations of sneak thieves in dressing-rooms.
