DAMAGE AT PALMERSTON FOWL BREEDER’S LOSS Press Association PALMERSTON N„ Wedneadaj . Assessments made of the extensive damage caused by the tornado on Monday afternoon indicate that a large sum is involved in making good the buildings which suffered when the wind left ruin in its track. Opinions are being expressed that some of the sufferers are in a worse position than if they had experienced a severe earthquake. Temporary reipairs were effected yesterdayto most homes, but a conservative estimate is that the repair bill will exceed £2,000. One home in Shamrock Street was rendered uninhabitable. Apart from the damage to dwellings, the rain caused a loss of household effects when it poured through gaping holes in the roofs. Repairs needed to the Girls* High School roof are stated to be extensive and likely to involve recowering the roof. Teaching at the school is being carried out under difficulties. The damage to Mr. H. C. Preece’s big fowl-house is estimated at £2OO. while the owner will have to sell his stock just at the beginning of the breeding season owing to the demolition of his fowlhouse. DAMAGE AT CAMBRIDGE METER BOARD SMASHED ( From Our Oxen Correspondent J CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. This morning a severe thunder- ! storm passed over the district, with heavy rain and vivid lightning. In the Kaipaki district, where the storm appears to have been particularly severe, damage was done to the residence of Mr. R. G. Heake. An electric meter-board was smashed and the telephone damaged.
