SUPERANNUATION PROBLEMS REMITS AT CONFERENCE Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At the annual conference of the Public Service Association executive committee opened today by the Hon. G. W. Forbes, the following remits were reaffirmed: That the Public Service Classification and Superannuation Act be altered to allow a contributor whose salary has been reduced through no fault of his own, to be allowed to contribute and have his retiring allowance computed on the higher rate of salary. That the Government be asked to investigate actuarially the possibility of providing increased pensions for widows based on increased contributions by contributors to the fund. That payment of superannuation to £52 per annum be not considered as income under the Pensions Act.

That any officer at the time of being superannuated be allowed to vest a proportionate part of his superannuation allowance in his wife. That the Government be asked to arrange for exemption from death duty of contributions to and allowances of superannuation and National Provident Fund. That the limit of £3OO superannuation as a maximum be removed. That allowances in respect of children of deceased public servants be continued until the children are 16 years of age, instead of 14 years, as at present.

That the conference strongly advocates the elimination of the sick leave amendment and requests that a return be made to the original regulation. That temporary employees occupying positions of a permanent nature, and eligible for appointment, be placed on the permanent staff. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. A. Burgess; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. R. Sinel, R. Fullerton, C. G. S. Ellis and T. Pound: auditor, Mr. R. L. Jellicoe; solicitors, Messrs. Mazengarb, Hay and Macalister; general treasurer, Mr.- T. G. Gilbert; women’s representatives, Misses M. Boyce and R. Barnett; executive committee, Messrs. W. S. Hardy (North Auckland), H. W. C. Mclntosh (Auckland), P. S. Foley (South Auckland), R. Sinel (Waikato), F. W. Thompson (Gisborne), W. Boardman (Taranaki), J. H. McKay (Wanganui), F. W. Browne (Hawke’s Bay), W. N. Waugh (Palmerston North), G. "Ward and R. B. Wakelin (Wellington), C. E. Butcher (Marlborough), R. Fullerton (West Coast), G. G. M. Mitchell (Canterbury), J. W. Wissen (Otago), F. H. Waters (Southland).
