NEW REGENT

“INTERFERENCE” William Powell, the suave villain ' of many Paramount productions, for the first time in his film life does not have to pursue a young lady for a kiss. Rather, Powell is himself pursued by no less a person than Evelyn Brent for his affections. The reason for Powell’s having the tables turned in his latest appearance before the camera is because he is one of the four central characters making up the cast of the all-talking picture “Interference,” at the New Regent Theatre. Powell portrays the role of Phillip Voaze, a roue who is a veteran of many love affairs. Among these is Evelyn Brent who enacts the role of Deborah Kane. She discovers Powell after he has been reported killed in the war, and it seems that she is the only one who really loves him. Powell, however, desires to be forgotten by her, hence his being pursued by the beautiful Miss Bi'ent. Railing to gain this, Miss Brent starts to blackmail the wife of Sir John Marlay, roles portrayed by Doris Kenyon and Clive Brook respectively. She blackmails Miss Kenyon because Powell loves her, and, previous to her marriage to the English surgeon, Mar lay, they had a love affair. The splendid talking supporting programme includes items by Eddie Cantor, comedian; a lecturette on “It” by Eleanor Glyn; and an amusing sketch in which all the players carry on a conversation by means of one word.
