FRANKLIN POWER BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Franking Electric-Power Board was held yesterday, Mr. J. Dean presiding. The engineer was authorised to undertake the installation of electric lights at the Franklin court to be staged at the Auckland Winter Show. The sub-committee appointed to deal with the tree-planting scheme was asked to furnish a report to the board. Following a report by the engineer, he was instructed to inspect a quantity of silver pine poles, and if found suitable for use, to purchase some.

A sub-committee, comprising Messrs. Arrowsmith, Garland. McKinney and the engineer, was appointed to investigate the board’s position regarding trees growing on boundary fences interfering with its lines. The question of trading activities was discussed, and the recent move of the Electcrical Traders’ Association with a. view of having legislation enacted to compel power boards to pay a tax on their trading operations. The board decided to enter a protest to all Ministers of the Crown and members of Parliament on the grounds that any profits derived from trading were passed on to the consumers. Authority was given for the raising of £50,000 of the recent loan sanctioned.
