VELVET AND HOMESPUN APPOINTMENTS APPROVED British Official 'Wireless Reed. 10.49 a.m. RUGBY. Monday. The following additional Government appointments have been approved by the King:—• Earl Cromer to be Lord Chamberlain. Earl Shaftesbury to be Lord Steward. Earl Granard to be Master of the Horse. Mr. Ben Smith, to be Treasurer of Household. Mr. Thomas Hendersou to be Comptroller of Household. Mr. John Hayes to be Vice-Chamber-lain. Earl of Cavan to bo Captain of Gentlemen At Arms. Major-General Lcrd Loch to be Captain of Yeomen of the Guard. Mr. Ben Smith, who has beon a member of Parliament for Rotherhithe since 1923, is organiser of the Transport and General Workers* Union. He has been Labour Party Whip for three years. Mr. Thomas Henderson, who is 61 years old. has been a keen Labour member of Parliament for Tradeston. Glasgow, since 1922. He is Scottish Labour Whip, and has been prominent *in the co-operative movement. Mr. John Henry Hayes is an expolieemau. and is a son of a police inspector. He has been a Labour member of Parliament for Edgehill, Liverpool, for six years. Shortly after joining the Metropolitan Police Force in 1901 he was appointed to the administrative staff and became sergeant. He resigned ten years ago to become general secretary of the National Union of Police and Prison Officers. He is a member of the executive of the National Labour Party.
