TUNNEY IN LEGAL BOUT
RESISTS WOMAN’S CLAIM FOR BREACH OF PROMISE TWICE PAID HER MONEY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.27 a.m. NEW YORK, Monday. Gene Tunney, former heavy-weight boxing champion, has filed a general denial of Mrs. Katherine King Fog-
arty’s breach of promise charges. Simultaneously, he has made a cross complaint, charging that Mrs. Fogarty twice received a cash consideration for the purpose of preventing a renewal of the charges, such consideration on the second occasion being £6,000. Mrs. Fogarty last month filed notice of attachment of Gene’s recently-pur-chased home at Stamford, Connecticut. Plaintiff claims £IOO,OOO damages. She says Tunney proposed in 1926, a week after she was divorced from John Fogarty. Plaintiff has a daughter aged 10. She lives at Stamford, Connecticut.
