OTAHUHU FIRE BRIGADE
A large number of members and friends of the Otahuhu Fire Brigade attended the brigade's annual smoke concert in the Gas Company’s Social Hall on Saturday evening. Representatives were present from practically every brigade in the Auckland Province.
Air. H. T. Clements, Mayoi of Otahuhu. presided, and was supported by Air. W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Alanukau electorate, Superintendent Ander and members of the Otahuhu Borough Council.
The usual toast list was honoured with musical accompaniments. In a short speech, the chairman congratulated the brigade on the splendid services rendered to The district, and said that during the past two years the cost of the service to the ratepayers was 3s 2d a head, this including the new fire staLon and the equipment.
During the evening an enjoyable programme of musical numbers was provided by the following: Messrs. Lonergan, Calvert, Toms, Bowling. C. R. Reader, Cooper, vocal solos; Alessrs. Lonergan and Calvert, vocal duet; Mr. F. Jarvis, monologue; Air. B. Bullen, elocutionary item; Air. Grainger, some humour. Air. Beck acted as accompanist. Between items. Air. W. J. Jordon made the following presentations; Honorary life member’s certificate. Mr. W. J. Hughes; two years service. Foreman Eustace; 2\ years’ service, Deputy-Superintendent Eustace; three years, Foreman -T. Hedge: ©i years, Foreman A. Todd.
