DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC
INQUEST ON YOUNG MAN (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Monday. The inquest concerning the death of Thomas William Atkinson, 19, who died under an anaesthetic while being operated on at. the Waikato Hospital, was opened by Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., today. Dr. A. G. Waddell, who conducted a post mortem examination, said the body was that of a healthy young man. He believed that death was due to the thymus gland being large and elongated. This was an unusual condition and could not be ascertained by external examination. Dr. J. G. Mackereth said that when Atkinson was admitted to the hospital he said he had always enjoyed good health. The inquest was adjourned until July 2, when the operating surgeon and the anaesthetist will give evidence.
