RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
“THE WIND” Prairie dogs -wore transplanted to the Mojave Desert as “local colour ’ for “The Wind,” Lillian Gish’s new picture. now at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres. The exterior scenes were filmed in the desert. The story deals with the Pioneer plains, and the prairie dogs were necessary. This is a strong draniatic story of an outcast girl’s soul lashed by the fury of nature, and the cunning of men in a desert wilderness. Lars Hanson and a strong cast support Miss Gish. “Kitty,” which is also being shown, is a charming story of English life from the pen of Warwick Deeping. Estelle Brody and John Stuart are the stars. “The Single Standard” has been selected by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a starring vehicle for Greta Garbo. Production will begin shortly under the direction of John Robertson, who made “Captain Salvation,” “The Road to Romance" and other M-G-M successes.
