TRADE WITHIN EMPIRE

CANADA MOVES TO EXTEND SCHEME NOTE TO OTHER DOMINIONS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) ( United Service) MONTREAL, Saturday. The Ottawa correspondent of the “Montreal Star” says the Minister of Finance, Mr. J. A. Robb, states that the Canadian Government has taken steps designed to lead to more extensive inter-imperial trading. Communications have been addressed to the Governments of all the overseas Dominions on the subject. The “Star” says Mr. D. H. Ross, Canadian Trade Commissioner in Australia, asked Mr. Robb if the Australian treaty is to be revised. Mr. Robb said: “We are going much further than that. We are communicating with all the Dominion Governments with the aim of increasing iliter-imperial trade. Our communications are likely to lead to a conference on the subject.” "What is in view is a policy of preferential Imperialism and development of trade within the Empire by means of an exchange of preferences. The common inference is that this development is a sequel to the new United States tariff policy.
