Sir George Elliot, who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland yesterday. yfr. H. F. Nicholl, of Ashburton, president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, is at present in Auckland. Mr. H- Harris, M.P.. who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland by the Limited this morning. Mr. J- Henrys*. racing handicapper, was a passenger from the South by this morning’s Limited. Mr. A. J. Murdock, M.P. for Marsden, left Whangarei today to join the cypress at Auckland for Wellington tonight. Mr. D. Ardell, of the Internal Affairs Department, arrived in Auckland this morning. He is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. S. Fletcher. M.P., lett last evening for Wellington to attend the coming Parliamentary session. He was accompanied by Mrs. Fletcher. Mr. J. W. TaHersfield returned to Auckland this morning from a visit to Palmerston North. He was accompanied by Mrs. Tattersfield. Mr. W. T. Bellingham, who has been director of music for the Radio Broadcasting Company for the past two years, has tendered his resignation, as he will leave for England shortly. Mr. George Short, of Turiwiri, has been appointed manager of the Northern Wairoa Experimental and Demonstration Farm at Mangatara, vice Mr. Taylor, who had resigned. There were 15 applications for the position. Captain, the Rev. H. S. Fussell. domestic chaplain to the Bishop of Waikato, has been licensed as assis-tant-curate of Te Awamutu till the end of the year. The Rev. P. Cleary has been appointed assistant-curate at Huntly, with charge of Ngaruawahia. A Wellington message states that news has been received that Dr. Leonard Cockayne has been made Foreign Member of the Royal Society of Science and Belles Lettres of Gothenburg, Sweden.—P.A. Mr. W. Penseler. consul for Germany, arrived from Wellington this morning, and is staying at the Grand Hotel.
