MAORI HISTORY
LECTURETTES ARRANGED FOR INSTITUTE BRIEF NATIVE SUBJECTS Arrangements are in view for the holding, before the Auckland Institute and Museum, of a night's series of the lecturettes on native history and customs now being conducted by Te Akarana Maori Association. By this means, interest in the native race is expected to be increased. Mr. George Graham, who takes a leading part in the affairs of the Maori and anthropology section of the institute, and in the association, is largely concerned in the move for closer investigation. Two lecturettes have been before the association this year. One, by Mrs. Rollo. dealt with the custom of "tomo” and “tono” In connection with marriage. Bast year the Institute and Museum conducted a series of big lectures, but variety is expected in the approaching evening of brief reviews. Maori students of music are to be helped by the association, which is making efforts to provide for the pupils of St. Stephen's and Victoria Colleges, who will be engaged in the native concert in the Town Hall on Saturday, June 29.
