DEVONPORT ORPHANS
SATURDAY’S MEETING The next session of the Devonport Orphans’ Club will be an “Old Hands’ Night,” when the chair will be taken by the Hon. E. AV. Alison, one of the pioneers of Devonport. On Saturday last, the club gathering was presided over by Mr. H. S. W. King, who was presented by the president, Mr. E. Aldridge, with a Past President’s Pin. in recognition of his services in 1927-8. The visitors included Messrs. Kemp, McDonald and Armstrong, of the Wellington Savages’ Club, and the executive members of the Auckland Orphans, for whom Bro. Casey acknowledged the felicitations. The entertainment provided included the overture from “Chu Chin Chow,” by the Club Band under Mr. Trevor de Clive-Lowe, and concert itmes by Mr. A. Simpson, Mr. Cecil, Mr. F. Raisher, Mr. Hogg and Mr. Walker.
The chairman’s remarks dealt with the ideals of the League of Nations and the advancement of the dream of a great human brotherhood.
