EMPLOYERS SEEK LOWER WAGES MEN WILL OPPOSE PLAN (ralian and -V.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Friday. The executive of the Federation of Master Cotton Spinners and Cotton Manufacturers, have agreed to ask for a reduction of wages of about 12J per cent., beginning on August 3. A month’s notice has been served on 500,000 operatives. It is expected that, before the notices terminate, the employers will take a ballot of their members, the support of 80 per cent, of them being necessary to give effect to the executive’s proposal. The men’s leaders have already stated that there will be uncompromising opposition to the reduction. It is believed that if the position is pressed, the result will be a general lockout.
