ASIA’S MILLIONS

IMPROVEMENT IN LABOUR Industrial conditions in Asia are being greatly improved by the work of the League of Nations, the Rev. A. W. McMillan informed the Auckland branch of the League of Nations in an address yesterday afternoon. The League’s labour reform was opening up a new perspective among teeming millions. New factory acts were coming into existence, and British India was already insisting on the regulation of hours of employment and the observance of a weekly holiday. Apart from the prevention of war. valuable constructive work was being done, and research work in diseases was being accomplished. China was forming stable government. Japan was revolutionising industry, and was putting her finger on the pulse of the world. Throughout the East, illicit traffic in firearms, drugs, and white slavery were being suppressed. The problem of minorities in Europe faded into insignificance in comparison with the requirements in the East. Co-operation was essential. Asia had the birthplaces of art, literature, and all the great religions.
