British Talkie Co's Important Agreement
ALLIANCE WITH GERMANS The host important event during the last month in the sphere of talking films has been an arcement between British Phototone and three German firms, Siemens-Halske, A.E.G. and Tobis. By this arrangement British Phototone secures the right for sound recording and reproduction, both by disc and film, besides being in association with these powerful German companies. It is understood that an agreement has also been made with the American Sonora-Bristolphone Co., and as the French Phototone are also concerned, the contracting companies have a world-wide importance. British firms are devoting continued attention to the problem of sound and talking film production. British International Pictures, for example, has erected large buildings at Els tree, says the “Monthly Trade Bulletin.” At Welwyn it is reported that British Instructional Films are making good progress with a studio which was commenced about three months ago. It is anticipated that the equipment will be complete early next month, when production will commence on a long picture, which will probably be one by Anthony Asquith called “The Cottage on Dartmoor.”
