ATHLETICS AT DOMAIN WOOLLER’S FINE SPRINT Showing a fine turn of speed, F. C. Wooller, the Training College sprinter, carried off the 75 yards handicap sprint at the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club’s winter sports meeting at the Outer Domain this afternoon. Wooller, who till today has been playing in the Training College- Rugby fifteen, ran his first race of the winter, and in the final romped home in 7 9-10 seconds off the 4Jyd mark. In spite of other sporting attractions in the city, there was a good attendance of competitors for both the track and field events. The two-mile steeplechase was carried off by another promising young runner, C. V. Clapham, who outdistanced the veteran, Alf. Clarke. Both Clapham and Wooller received silver cups for their wins. Following are results: 75 YARDS HANDICAP First Heat. E. C. Wooller, 4Jyda 1 R. L. Stewart, 91yds 2 T. Montgomery, 71yds Eight started. Won by a foot in S 2-6 sec. Second Heat. C. Torbett, Byds 1 A. Clarke, 14yds .2 B. Cohen y Nine started. Won by a foot in 8 2-o Final. E. C. Wooller, 41yds 1 C. Torbett, Byds * B. Cohen, * •Dead heat recond. Wooller got well away off the mark, and assumed the lead 20 yards from the tape, to win easily, by about two yards. Torbett and Cohen breasted the tape together. STEEPLECHAoJ About two miles. L. V. Clapham, 100 sec .. 1 A. Clarke, 128 sec - C. Scown, 55sec 3 Clarke, at 12S, was the first off the mark in the steeplechase, followed by 18 others, including McNeil, HensnaL’, Scown, Green, and Barker. N. F. Cooper, on 22sec was the last runner to leave, as both Savidan and Kells were not competing. , , The end of the first lap saw Clarke still in the lead, with McNeil lying second. Henshall, Scown, and Barker had all worked their way up, and Cooper had passed one back-marker. Clarke hung on to his lead for the second time round, with Clapham second, and McNeil third. Scown had pushed his way up to fifth place, with Henshall just two yards behind him. Barker was running eighth, with Cooper just behind ninth. Clapham eventually overhauled Clarke, to win by 10 yards, with C. Scown eight yards further back third. Barker fin ished sixth, Henshall seventh, and Cooper eighth. PUTTING THE SHOT L. C.
