BADMINTON

OLD CLUB WOUND UP DEPARTURE OF MR. AND MRS. DART By ‘‘SHUTTLE.” During the week a meeting was held at whicli the affairs of the old Auckland Club, the city’s first properly constituted club, were wound up. Although the secession of a portion of its membership closed the career of this club, it was its formation, and the influence it had among prospective players, that paved the way to the popularity the game is enjoying today. In the constitution of the club !t was specified that any funds leftover after it ceased activities should be devoted to badminton. At the meeting held on Tuesday the manner in which this clause should be observed was discussed. There was; a suggestion that the money should be handed to one or two individual clubs, but the wiser course was adopted of giving it to the New Zealand association, which will be strengthened by the windfall, and will use it with due wsdom.

The association representatives is Auckland have a strenuous time ahead of them in arranging the New Zealand championships, to be run here in September. The chief problem centres is the question of a suitable hall. The To*t. Hall was inspected, but it was fount that the overhang of the galleries would interfere with deep shots. The iScots Hall seems to be the best bet a: the moment.
