ARCHITECTURAL WORK

SOANE AND TITE PRIZES SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS The competition for the Tite prize and the Soane medallion is again being conducted on behalf of the Royal Institute of British Architects by the New Zealand Institute of Architects with the help of the School of Architecture at the Auckland University College. The Tite prize, which is one of £SO, is awarded for the study of Italian architecture and, this year, the conditions limit the competition to intermediate students. Fifteen of these entered the preliminary competition in which, working without the aid of books, photographs or notes, they were given 12 hours to design a belltower.

In this preliminary, five-competitors, Messrs. V. A. Brown, A. C. Marshall, G. R. C. Muston, C. Sanderson and R. A. Wfddicomb, were successful and they will sit again on July 6, when they will prepare a sketch in 12 hours for a design for a monastery. After that they will have six weeks to make a set of drawings which will be sent to London to be compared with the work of students from all parts of the Empire. The Soane prize is for advanced students only and consists of a medallion and £l5O. Five competitors sat for the preliminary examination on June 8. and prepared sketches for a ball-room in a private house. Messrs. A. G. Tizard and G. F. Wilson were successful and they will compete in a final examination to design a sports club, their drawings then being sent to London.
