ANOTHER CABLE FUSES

QUEEN STREET PREMISES DAMAGED FLAMES BURN WORKMAN A plate-glass window was cracked and some fruit in Ah Chee and Company's shop was damaged last evening when an electric-cable fused under the pavement at the corner of Lower Queen Street and Quay Street West, opposite the Ferry Buildings. The City Fire Brigade was called out and used a chemical extinguisher on the flames. This caused a dense black smoke, and a burst of flame broke out a moment later, but another extinguisher finally put out the fire. While working there an employee of the Auckland Power Board, Mr. Kenneth McDonald, received burns on his face and head. He was taken to hospital, but his condition is not serious. The damaged cables were repaired within a few minutes after the flames had died away, and the flow of power was restored.
