BRAVERY REWARDED
MEDAL FOR YOUTH RAGLAN DROWNING FATALITY (Special to THE SCS) RAGLAN, Wednesday. The Royal Humane Society’s silver medal was presented to a youth, Louis Park, for gallant conduct, by Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P.. at a social this evening. The medal was awarded for Park’s conduct in saving the life of Louis Bertling, and in attempting to save the lives of his father, William Park, and Clarence Walker, .who were drowned when the launch Valli was wrecked on the Raglan bar on January 20. Mr. Martin said very few instances more deserving of recognition had occurred in New Zealand. The medal was not given indiscriminately, but careful investigation was always carried out before the award was made. He congratulated Park on his achievement, and Airs. Martin pinned th** medal on the recipient amid appla.uso.
