NGARUA CELEBRATES

WORLD’S BEST BUTTER-FAT DISTRICT SETTLERS CONGRATULATED (Front, Our Own Correspondent) TB AROHA, Wednesday. In celebration of Ngarua making the world’s record in butter-fat production to the acre, a special social function took place in the hall yesterday afternoon. The meeting was addressed by speakers representing concerns connected with the dairying industry. Those present included the president of the New Zealand Herd-testing Federation, Mr. Dynes Fulton,.manag-ing-director, and Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager, of the Ndw Zealand Co-operative Dairy Association, Mr. C. M. Hume, general manager of the New Zealand Herd-testing Association, Mr. F. Lye, M.P. for Waikato. Mr. L. Mackie, president of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce, and others. Mr. Ft. A. Candy, whose herd was the champion in the district, acted as chairman, and introduced the speakers. In his opening address the chairman traced the gradual rise of Ngarua from an undrained timbered swamp to the richest of dairy lands, which was producing 1701 b of fat to the acre, thus achieving a world’s record. He was proud to celebrate such an occation. Mr. Dynes Fulton congratulated the district on its great record. Tracing the growth of herd-testing generally, the speaker said that the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Association had laid the foundations of the practice when it had subsidised the scheme in its infancy. t Now it had grown to be one of the most important factors in modern farming. Other speakers to congratulate the district were Mr. Lye, Mr. Flume. Mr. T. Mackie, Mr. W. C. Kennedy, member for the district in Piako County Council, Dr. Annett. and Mr. Marchant. After the function afternoon tea was provided, and in the evening a social was held.
