WHANGAREI NOTES
The number of unemployed in Whangarei at present- is very small. However, large sewerage contracts, which absorbed many unemployed some months ago, are expected to be completed in a couple of months, when unemployment will again be rife. The Borough Council has decided to approach the Government for a £1 for £1 subsidy on £1,500 for concreting footpaths,, which is expected to rel lieve the position. - The number of unemployed can be 'judged by the fact that the engineer ‘wanted six men yesterday, and only tXiree appeared. .At the conclusion of the successful brta adcasting of the Whangarei Band co.wert last Sunday evening, the commii'rfxee of the band met and decided to negotiate with the company to have the next concert on Sunday, June 30, broadcast.
