COUNCIL’S ANNUAL MEETING CLASSES AT SEDDON COLLEGE “Very satisfactory classes are now being conducted in horticultural education at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, in preparation for the diplomas awarded by tho society,’* says the annual report of the Auckland District Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, which was presented at last evening's annual meeting. Profes>sor H. H. Corbin presided. The report describes the outstanding work of the council during the year, and mentions that the report of the Auckland Botanic Gardens Committee was adopted by the City Council. The report had suggested that a start should be made in the Domain, but unfortunately nothing had been done in the six months since the report was presented. An experimental plot has been established by the Citrus Committee at Hillsborough, and, work in it is making marked progress. It is hoped that tho grant from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research will be continued, so that the research work begun can be brought to a. practical conclusion. Much work in connection with the proposed agricultural high school for Auckland has been undertaken during the year, and, to secure support, a public meeting was held, and the Auckland Provincial Agricultural Education Committee reconstitute. Later a large delegation inspected the work being done at the Pilkekohe Technical High School. The report also mentions that the fund being raised for the preservation of the Waimauku kauri bush has been augmented by the gift of a section worth £ 600 by Mr. dnd Mrs. W. R. Wilson. Other promises total about £2OO, and the Scenery Preservation Board has been asked for a grant of .£ 300. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Professor H. H. Corbin; chairman of committee, Mr. F. H. Leonard; vice-chairmen, Messrs. J. Hunter and W. 11. Rice; committee, Messrs. D. A. Hay, T. L. Lancaster, A. G. Sainsbury; P. Carr Rollett, Dr. AV. S. Hill, Miss E. Kibblewhfte, Mrs. G. Brownlee; Dominion vice-president, Mr. D. A. Hay; secretary, Mr. N. R. W. Thomas. A vote of thanks to Mr. Thomas was proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr. Hay, and carried unanimously by acclamation.
