MAJESTIC
“A SOUTH SEA BUBBLE” This evening will see the final presentation of the current programme at the Majestic Theatre, which is headed by the screen version of the thrilling play, “The Silent House.” Mabel Poulton is seen as T'Mala Gibb McLaughlin as the sinister Dr. Chan Fu, and Arthur Pusey as George Winsford. A British film unusually interesting and full of fun “tops” the programme at the Majestic tomorrow. “A South Sea Bubble,” a title reminiscent of an old swindle, lias been adapted from a story by Roland Pertwee, part author of “Interference,” and it is to be remarked that the author not only took great interest in the actual production, but subseqLiently wrote the sub-titles. It is a story of a hunt for treasure on a tropical island, upon which a dying pirate hid the last of his ill-gotten gains, bequeathing the jewels to his descendants. “A South Sea Bubble” tells of a little syndicate—quite in the modern style—formed to discover a pirate’s treasure hidden away in the South Seas. Thrust upon hard times the last descendant of an old pirate sought to recoup his losses by fleecing his fellow's. With quiet concern he entered upon a crooked path, emulating his ancestor with something of the old pirate’s duplicity, but without his fiery determination. An old philanthropist “butts in” on the scheme and endeavours to straighten the crooked course. How he succeeds in bringing happiness to all and how unexpected success awards the venture is told in a delightful picture. Ivor Novello leads the cast, which includes Annette Benson, Benita Hume, S. J. Warmington, and Ben Field. The second big picture will be “Not Quite Decent?’ an immensely amusing comedy starring Louise Dresser, June Collyer and Marjorie Beebe. Another aspirant to “hard-boiled” screen honours is Dan Wolheim, who plays an tinusually bloodthirsty pirate in the Fox picture “The Far Call.” Like his well-known cousin Louis, Dan began his career on the stage, but decided to turn his talents toward the kleig lights.
