PAVEMENT CABLE FUSES

An underground cable at the corner of Kitchener and Victoria Streets fused yesterday afternoon, causing a loud explosion and an outbreak of fire. The city fire brigade turned out. but could do nothing until the power was cut off. No property was damaged, but the bitumen on the pavement surface caught fire and burned over several square yards.
